Research & Development Tax Credits
The questions we are often asked are 'What are research and development tax credits?', or 'How do I claim research and development tax credits?'
In 2000 the government introduced incentives to encourage research and development by UK companies.
Research and development tax relief (often referred to as R&D tax credits) can provide tax relief on up to 175% of qualifying research and development expenditure. But perhaps more importantly the company may be able to obtain a cash refund of up to 24.5% of every £1 spent on qualifying activities.
The benefits can be sizeable - for £100,000 of relevant expenditure you could generate a cash refund of £24,500 or mitigate tax of up to £52,000.
R&D Tax Credits: Vital Funding
Can you afford to miss out on a vital tax shelter and for many, a vital source of funding?
Targeted at innovation, this tax relief is open to a wide range of businesses. For example, we are working with software companies, mobile telephone technology, gold fish bowls, new fabrics, cars, cheese cutting machines, parts for excavators and even trees!
Many companies do not claim because they wrongly think they are not entitled to claim R&D tax credits or have been wrongly advised by other accountants, or even HMRC, that they are not entitled to claim the tax relief.
The PEM approach to R&D Tax Credits
In order to achieve a degree of certainty, we not only submit your claim but produce a detailed report which goes beyond that stipulated by HMRC guidelines in order maximise the chances of a full claim.
Many would claim HMRC are tightening policy on R&D claims - our view is that they are merely enforcing the original legislation which we have been advising on since the regime was devised.
It is important that you engage a professional to submit your claim, with a proven track record of submitting successful claims. Using inexperienced advisors could compromise or negate your claim and put not only the current claim but future claims at risk.
Many claim to be experts in this area but we have been advising on this relief since its inception in 2000. Few advisors in Cambridge can rival our expertise or the number of cases we have worked on. We also boast a 100% track record.
R&D Tax Credits in the News
We keep a close eye not only on the regime but the political and economical factors that impact on it, including the potential impacts of a change in government. We also publish articles to inform those affected by such impacts.
R&D Claim Costs
Many potential claimants are dissuaded from claiming because they fear the costs of compiling a claim will outweigh the benefits. PEM ensures that this never happens meaning your business benefits from this key relief.
Contact us on +44(0) 1223 728258 for a free review of your business. There is a limited period in which a claim can be made for a given period so the longer you leave it the more you could lose.
R&D Claims Throughout the UK
We can handle your claim wherever you are based in the UK and whatever your area of technology.

Testimonial
“Having been advised by our previous accountant that we would not be eligible for R&D tax credits, we were delighted when PEM advised us to the contrary and what’s more, secured a significant credit for our business. This highlighted to us the value of getting high quality professional advice and working with subject matter experts, both as provided by PEM.”
